Support for Children and Young People: The Haven

The Haven's Children’s Services

Support Service
The Haven, in partnership with the Blantyre/ North Hamilton SIP project have developed a support service for children and young people.

Bereavement Support
The Haven also offers bereavement support for children and young people. This is done using the Seasons for Growth programme.

Seasons for Growth is a loss and grief education programme catering for young people aged 6 – 18 years.

Seasons for Growth aims to:

1) Support young people to understand and manage the grief that is experienced through the loss of a parent or significant other.
2) Assist in normalising the emotions associated with the loss.
3) Encourage the expression of thoughts and emotions.
4) Educate about the grief process.
5) Develop a peer support network.
6) Help restore self-confidence and self-esteem.

Seasons for Growth is based on the belief that grief is a normal and valuable part of life and that children and adolescents need to be provided with the opportunity to examine how grief as a result of death has impacted on their lives.

Education and Information
The Haven also has a range of educational materials for children and adults to help you or your child through the grieving process. Materials that can be borrowed from the lending library include books and videos. Booklets and information sheets on bereavement, produced by the Child Psychology Trust can be sent to parents and teachers on request.

Telephone advice service / help line.
This is available for any concerned adult, including teachers if supporting children or young people.

Drop in advice for parents/ adults re children’s issues.
