NHS Lanarkshire Therapeutic Support in Cancer and Palliative
Care
The NHS Lanarkshire Therapeutic Support Service in Cancer
and Palliative Care.
The service is based in Beckford Lodge, Hamilton. It is
staffed by Jean Aitken, a professional Counsellor. The service offers
support and/or counselling aimed at assisting those affected by Loss and
Grief.
Those who may benefit from the service are:
- Those with cancer who have been bereaved, or
- Those affected by a cancer related death.
Accessing the service
Referral to the service is through your General Practitioner or Macmillan
Nurse. Once the referral is made, Jean will contact you, usually by telephone,
to arrange a mutually convenient time and place to meet.
The meeting is quite informal, and will give you the chance to check out
if what is offered is suitable to your needs.
Availability
The service is available Monday-Friday, 9am to 5pm, though there can be
some flexibility out with these hours.

Unfortunatley Jean’s not always able to come to
the telephone, however, she is good at returning calls as soon as she
can if you leave a note of your name and telephone number on the answering
machine.
